They capture the name and email of their prospects and then, without delivering any value or creating an authentic relationship, are immediately asking for money (aka the equivalent of trying to sleep together).

Up until now you may have been repelling your ideal clients. If you’re using email marketing incorrectly this can happen. Or, if you don’t have an automatic way to build a relationship with your prospects then you have been leaving over 50% of your sales on the table.

You’re here now.

The ability to form a bond, make an impact, and bring in orders on a profitable basis is a rare find in today’s online world. Everybody talks about it…but few actually achieve it.

And, if you can do it, I mean really do it, you can write your own ticket to your future.

If I were to guess…you still feel a little shaky in this online marketing world.

You see others crushing it but one of three things is causing you to feel STUCK.

  1. You know what you need to do but simply don’t have time to sit down and write a bunch of great email copy because you have too many other things going on.
  2. You’ve attended countless conferences that preach that your email list is your bank account, however they don’t teach you HOW to build an active and engaged list that actually buys from you.
  3. You’ve bought into the possibility of turning your already successful offline consulting/coaching business into an online sensation but are feeling overwhelmed on where to begin.

Keep reading and I’m going to show you Conscious Copy’s 5-step Authentic Influencer™ process to building a loyal tribe that knows, likes, and trusts you so that when they are ready to buy — you are top of mind.

Two of my first mentors, Harvey Mackay (#1 NYT Best Selling Author) & Greg Hague (#1 Real Estate Coach) always used to tell me, “Jennifer, people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care AND that you can help them solve their problem.”

This has undoubtedly become one of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned.
And one of the BIGGEST pieces of marketing advice I’ve ever received…

My good friend Joe Polish (one of the #1 marketers in the world and founder of Genius Network) taught me that the best marketing is educational marketing.

Meaning: the best and most ethical way to sell is to teach the prospect what they need to know in order to make the best decision for themselves.

In a moment I’m going to share my 5-step process to become the #1 Influencer in your niche, build a loyal tribe, and set yourself up to double your sales.

But first, let’s look at some stats.

Many online business owners are led to believe that a big list equals a big business.

In fact, some leaders say that a list of 10,000 people is worth $1,000,000 a year. Do you ever wonder why it isn’t working out for you? Why when you make an offer to your list there’s crickets?

The magic really happens when you create a connection with the people on your list.

…Serve them so well and develop a relationship so that they look to you as their Trusted Advisor and Influencer as quickly as possible. As a result, they become passionate, paying clients.

Research shows that if you follow up with new leads within five minutes (I recommend queuing up an automated email, unless you want to be chained to your computer), you’re NINE TIMES more likely to convert them [Source: Hubspot].

According to a DemandGen report, potential customers that you nurture with emails produce, on average, a 20% INCREASE in sales opportunities over those that don’t get nurtured.

Lastly, Forrester research suggests that businesses who nurture leads make 50% more sales.

The takeaway? You’re leaving a lot of money on the table when you’re not nurturing your email list with the right strategy after they opt into your list.

And now for Conscious Copy’s 5-step process…

Step 1: The Influencer Profile™.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle stated that we tend to believe and trust people who we respect. He broke this process into three categories — Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.


Ethos: Sharing character and credibility. Think “gut.”
Pathos: Showing/Evoking emotions and feelings. Think “heart.”
Logos: Appealing to logic and reasoning. Think “mind.”


When you encourage someone to align themselves to you with these three ingredients…you can motivate them to act. When you motivate and consistently show up, you create rapport.

So…what makes you different, unique, and outstanding? This is good ol’ dating advice that’s completely relevant to marketing.

If you want to attract rockstar clients (I prefer calling people who hire me clients not customers…there’s a VERY important distinction…more on this later) you gotta be a rockstar and be able to effectively communicate that.

If you want to be an Influencer and build a loyal tribe (which if you’re still reading…we’ll assume you do) you need to get clear of who you are and why you’re different.

Next up…

Step 2: The Ideal Client Snapshot™. Let’s make one thing very clear. Your audience is NOT everyone.

I mentioned that I prefer to call people who pay me clients (or my tribe) not customers.

The reason?

Check out the dictionary definitions of each…in fact, I will provide them for you.

Customer: Somebody who buys commodity or service.
Client: Somebody who is under the care, protection, well being of another.
If you want to be the Influencer and build a tribe you gotta have their back, tell them the truth, and ALWAYS look out for their best interest.

You may have heard of the idea of creating a “customer avatar.”

Are they male or female?

How much do they earn?

What are their hobbies & interests?

What’s their occupation?


This is a great FIRST step, however, there’s so much more to it.

You gotta get in their head.

What are their Fears? Obstacles? Desires? Goals? Thoughts? Feelings? Beliefs?

The business that wins is the business that understands their client better than anyone else and then delivers on that.

Eben Pagan, a well-known online marketer, talks about the power of narrowing down your niche to be as specific as possible. It feels counter intuitive not to appeal to everyone, however, the more you generalize, the less appealing you are.

If you actually want to get through to people and get people to pay you money, then you need to narrow down your niche and find out everything about them so that they believe they can trust you.

Please take a lot of time with this.

Most amateur marketers half ass this step…even some of the better businesses don’t take nearly enough time with it. Take the time. Put in too much. You should literally know everything going on in the mind of your ideal client.

Do they prefer tacos or burritos? Two-ply toilet paper or three? I ain’t kidding. Know. Everything.

You may be wondering, “What does this have to do with email marketing?”

My answer = everything.

If you don’t know who you really are or how you best communicate while still being entertaining and effective…you’re toast.

And, if you don’t know how to properly communicate with your ideal clients so that they know, like, and trust you and see massive value in you and how you can help them…you’re really toast.

If you really take the time to do these first two steps that I’ve written here…in other words…get clear of who you are…and who you want to help FIRST, then you will immediately be ahead of the game.

Step 3: The Compelling Offer. What makes your offer a “no brainer” for your ideal client?

You need to paint a picture of the OUTCOME your ideal client wants.

You’re obviously really serious about becoming the Influencer in your niche, building your tribe, and massively increasing your sales and I just want to take some time to acknowledge you for reading this far.

Side note: Most people never take the time to educate themselves like you are right now. (You takin’ notes? 😉 )

I see so many coaches, experts, and thought leaders trying to sell the airplane.


They are trying to sell their product or service rather than the TRANSFORMATION that the new client will get if they buy the product or service.

Have you ever booked a flight somewhere only because you wanted to be on an airplane for 4 hours?


Probably not, right?

You knew you wanted to go somewhere , therefore you booked a flight so that you could get there.

The same idea applies to whatever you’re selling. People buy the transformation (aka the destination) not the product or service (aka the airplane).


The bigger the gap between the BEFORE & AFTER (aka Transformation) the more you can charge.

Your tribe is going to spend a lot more money to get that paradise beach vacation than they are to get the inside of the airplane above. Right now you’re trying to sell the plane…sell the destination instead.

It’s also important to include components like a Guarantee, Scarcity, and Bonuses so you can make it a no-brainer.

Make sense so far?

These three steps are the building blocks to creating phenomenal email copy that connects.

The rest is in the marketing and sales.

And this does NOT mean just blasting people with random emails to buy your stuff once they opt in. This will not work.

That’d be like trying to sleep with the person you want to marry on the first date. Not cool.

To really become the Influencer, build your tribe, and double your sales, you need a laser-focused strategy and compelling messaging and copy.

Step 4: The Powerful Lead Magnet™ will get the “right” prospects in your funnel.

How are you going to build your tribe? You are going to need to ask for their name and email.

Whether it’s on your website, through a powerful lead magnet, a quiz, after a speech, etc.

If someone was to ask you out in real life by saying:

“Can I have your number?”


“I’d love to take you out for a nice, fancy steak dinner tomorrow, can I have your number?”

Which are you more likely to say yes to?

My guess is the latter.

The same goes with a Lead Magnet. The more appealing it is to your ideal client in helping solve the problem they want fixed…the more likely they are going to opt in.

With your lead magnet, you want to make sure that it’s appealing SPECIFICALLY to the people you want to help. Again, this goes back to Step 2…you don’t want EVERYONE to opt in to your list…only the people you know that you can and want to help.

So, what kind of lead magnet do you create?

Here’s an example:

You want your Powerful Lead Magnet to be HIGHLY DESIRED and EASILY CONSUMED.

1. Short
2. Actionable
3. Gets a Specific Result
4. Easy to Implement
5. Your Trademarked Process

Lastly, Step 5: The Copy Creation.

Before you start writing your emails, you need a strategy.

It really depends on where the person is opting in to your list from. Your website? A lead magnet? After hearing you speak? For a webinar? Etc.

It’s like dating. You may follow up with someone differently that you reach out to randomly on a dating app compared to someone you met at a BBQ and spent some time together.

So first get clear on where they are coming in from. Secondly…get clear on where you want to take them. What compelling offer are you going to lead them to? It all needs to align.

In this example let’s pretend they opted in on your website.

Here’s the sequence you’re going to want to have set up.

The goal? Warm up and build the relationship. You can make a gentle invite to one of your products or programs, the option to hop on a call to see if they’d be a good fit for your services, or the opportunity to sign up for a webinar if it’s applicable.

The Welcome Email needs to be AWESOME. Hey…this is your first impression, we don’t have time to mess around here. This determines if they’re into you and your style and whether they open any of your future emails.

From there, you’re taking them on a journey.

I learned this from a brilliant email marketer, Andre Chapron.

Andre taught me that each autoresponder should be like a TV series. There’s a main theme throughout, and then each email tells a story and creates suspense and entertainment for the reader to keep them engaged.
